Oh Texture, Oh Boy!

Our first graders just completed these artworks, where they not only learned about texture (the way things feel!), but also learned some basic color theory.  First, they used items found in their art boxes to create seven or eight different textures with Model Magic.

To complete these awesome paintings, the students chose to use either the warm or the cool colored family, and then tried to mix as many different hues with them as they could.  They finished with skinny brushes and paint from the metallic family.

The students came up with some really interesting details with their metallic paint.  Luke even decided to include one of our BFF's (Basic Fact Friend: As a building, we are focusing on two math facts per week!) in his painting!

Art from Home Gallery

The Art from Home Gallery is located just inside the art room here at Suffield, and it is a special place where I display all of the wonderful artwork our students create at home.  I love to see the creative works my students make outside the walls of my room!  These images are just a few examples of some of the awesome work currently on display.

Beautiful Leaves

Fall is here!  The fifth graders just finished learning about the fascinating natural artwork of Andy Goldsworthy and they created these beautiful ceramic leaves.  Real leaves were pressed into slabs (thinly rolled out pieces) of clay, trimmed, and then glazed according to the students' desires!

Anti-Bullying Week

To celebrate Anti-Bullying week here at Suffield, we've  been making these "anti-bully" bracelets (kindergartners made necklaces!) in art class.  Each class brainstormed a list of anti-bullying words and then used shrink film to create beads displaying anti-bullying reminders.  These bracelets will help us remember to make footprints worth following!
